New York Center For Living

April 2021

Nip it in the Bud

Nip it in the Bud is an education and support program to help adolescents and young adults quit vaping and tobacco use. It helps clients develop a plan that guides them on their quit journey. They will also receive the support they need to remain vape-free and tobacco-free for life!

In a partnership with The American Lung Association’s N-O-T Not On Tobacco® program, NYCFL is launching its “Nip it in the Bud” program on Tuesday, April 13. The program will provide options, resources, and support to quit for good! This cycle will be open to adolescents ages 13 – 18.

Virtual 5-Week Program

In this virtual 5-week (10 session) program, they cover the following topics: reasons to quit, why you smoke or vape, myths from “big tobacco,” nicotine addiction and triggers, effects of smoking and vaping, how to quit, overcoming obstacles to quitting, how to deal with stress, and staying committed to quitting.

Just when we thought nicotine usage was going down in America, vaping begins to skyrocket. According to the 2018 New York State Youth Tobacco Survey conducted by the New York State Department of Health, more than half of high school seniors have tried vaping. According to the CDC, using nicotine in adolescence can harm the parts of the brain that control attention, learning, mood, and impulse control.
